Position Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Orientation Services at the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus this position assists the director with most aspects of the Storrs campus Orientation program for new students and parents.

This position provides responsible administrative and program support for the Office of Orientation Services at the University of Connecticut, Storrs Campus.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in planning, managing and overseeing the Storrs Campus Preview Program, and the Storrs Spring Admissions program.
  • Assists in planning, managing and overseeing the Parent Orientation program for freshmen and transfer parents.
  • Assists in planning, managing and overseeing the International Orientation program in August.
  • Recruits, interviews and trains students to be International Orientation Ambassadors
  • Assists in editing electronic and printed orientation materials
  • Helps coordinate, enter data and analyze all Orientation program evaluations using Qualtrics survey software.
  • Updates and maintains the Orientation website using WordPress.
  • Assists in the orientation office to answer phones, help visitors and student staff to answer questions and address concerns.
  • Monitors and answers emails that are sent to the orientation mailbox.
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in the area of college student Orientation, First Year Programs or Admissions.
  • Knowledge of planning and implementing Orientation or First Year programs activities for college students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty, staff, incoming students and families in an undergraduate college environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and clearly; excellent writing and editing (proofreading) skills.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, multitask, meet tight deadlines, and handle large workloads.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours during Orientation periods. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 years of experience working in undergraduate student Orientation at a college or university.
  • Knowledge in planning and implementing undergraduate student Orientation programs.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop) and i-Movie
  • Knowledge of HTML
  • Knowledge and experience working with the online database software application known as “Visual Zen Orientation.”
  • Knowledge and experience using Qualtrics or other types of Survey Software

 

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position.  Early mornings, evening and weekend hours during Orientation periods are typical.  The anticipated start date for this position is July, 2019.
