Position Description

Program Coordinator, The David & Wanda Brown Center for Leadership and Service
Division of Student Affairs, University of Florida

Summary of Position:

The Coordinator for The David and Wanda Brown Center for Leadership & Service is primarily responsible for coordinating community engagement and service-learning programs, strategies, and services for students.  As an integral member within the Student Activities and Involvement team, this role serves areas that enhance the student experience and provide a foundation of opportunities that enhance campus life for students, faculty, staff, and community members alike.  Student Activities and Involvement impacts the student experience through supporting a multitude of student organizations and their initiatives, educating students about co-curricular involvement and its benefits, and provides engagement opportunities that augmenting the campus life experience. 

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Coordinate programs, education, and outreach for students and the campus community related to civic engagement and development through service

  • Create, develop, and implement programming for UF community related to civic engagement, service-learning, and community engagement.
  • Facilitate collaborative partnerships with service and/or civic organizations in Alachua County, City of Gainesville, and the UF community for the purpose of student and university member’s civic engagement and/or service learning
  • Manage on-going service opportunities and programs available for members of the UF Community.
  • Responsible for management and coordination of the Florida Alternative Break program that includes but is not limited to program development, program management, risk management, and on-site event management; ensure the program fosters development of socially responsible leadership skills and its future application
  • Develop and coordinate logistics and travel for the Florida Alternative Break program
  • Responsible for creating service learning, community service, and civic engagement initiatives designed for individual or group participation that encourages growth and sustained participation
  • Liaise with faculty and academic units to establish relationships, partnerships, and programming that enhance the programs and services provided by the Brown Center for Leadership and Service
  • Advise service related student organizations and committees as required
  • Assist with recognition programs for volunteers and community members (e.g. Presidential Service)

Responsible for management of staff and volunteers

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and schedule Florida Alternative Break student staff for area as well as OPS staff member
  • Responsible for administrative functions related to employee time approval and reporting, performance evaluation, and related human resources functions for staff
  • Plan and manage the day-to-day operation including establishing work priorities and workflow; develop goals relevant to the area and provide direction for goal accomplishment.
  • Plan and implement academic course related to trip planning, safety, service-learning and related topics
  • Assist with the development, appropriate dissemination and enforcement of specific policies, procedures, and guidelines for program participation, facility and equipment use.
  • Recruit, train, and manage student volunteers as needed

Assist with administrative functions of the Brown Center for Leadership and Service and Student Activities and Involvement

  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental strategic planning
  • Assist with assigned portion of area budget and track expenditure related to community engagement
  • Assist with development and implementation of program assessments and reporting
  • Assist with risk mitigation strategies and practices and serve as emergency/crisis/incident responder as necessary
  • Assist with alumni outreach initiatives on behalf the of the Brown Center for Leadership and Service
  • Assist with providing oversight and advisement for major campus-wide events hosted by registered student organizations
  • Assist with the implementation of leadership development programs, opportunities and initiatives
  • Assist with the development of leadership, service, or departmental presentations to various audiences.
  • Serve on Division of Student Affairs or University of Florida committees as needed

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
