Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Program Manager-Student Development supports the enterprise wide Office of Student Services within Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science (MCCMS). [DJT1] The Program Manager-Student Development is a seasoned student development professional with independent responsibility for serving students and managerial responsibility for the Office of Wellness and Academic Success. The Program manager provides student advising and refers to specialists (Academic Success Advisors, Mental Health Clinicians, and the Disability Specialist) for further counseling and advising. In addition, the Program Manager: supports and provides crisis management; addresses student complaints and concerns; ensures tutoring services consistent with demand are available; and provides support to colleagues in financial aid, student accounts, the registrar’s office, and transition services (orientation, onboarding, etc.).

 

  • Ability to work collegially and effectively with faculty, administrators, students, and members of the community
  •              Experience in the management of student support programs
  •        Demonstrated skills in organizational administrative functions, including financial/budgetary and personnel management skills
  •               Training or experience in student mentoring, advising, supervising and outreach to foster a professional growth-oriented learning community
  •                 Demonstrated success in applying the helping competencies for successful practice in student affairs, including but not limited to the skills of active listening and communication, crisis management, discernment, and the use of appropriate referrals
  •                   Demonstrated effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population
  •                  Demonstrated effectiveness in managing complex organizational processes and making data-driven decisions
  •                  Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated effectiveness in management and group dynamics, including team problem solving skills
  •                  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of eight years of student development program management experience required; Master’s degree in college student personnel, student development, student affairs in higher education, counseling, or related field and minimum of five years of student development program management experience preferred. The successful candidate who does not hold a master’s degree will be an unusual professional who has developed a unique expertise in student development despite the absence of formal training in one of the preferred areas.
