Position Description

University Student Program Spec I serving as the Center Coordinator (CC)

The Residence Hall Community Coordinator is an innovative, full-time, professional staff member in a dynamic department committed to creating and sustaining supportive learning environments and helping students to reach their curricular and co-curricular goals.

This integral member of the Residence Life team is responsible for the administrative and managerial functions of 2 graduate student employees, a varying number of student employees/community assistants, and approximately 20 resident advisors in a community of between 700-1000 residents. They are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of their designated community. The majority of student residents will be first-year students.

Additionally, the Coordinator helps support the strategic direction of the residence halls by making recommendations on process improvement and implementing processes for the purpose of providing a more positive experience. The Coordinator serves in an on-call duty capacity at designated times during the year. Areas of responsibility include supervision, selection, and training of graduate and undergraduate staff and student leaders, consistent communication with Facilities to care for the community, central administrative housing duties, counseling, student safety, community development, discipline and curriculum. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Specific Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the hiring, training, and on-going development and assessment of Graduate Assistants, resident advisors and community assistants.
  • Ensuring quality student services and programs that support the mission and goals of OU Housing and Food Services and Student Affairs.
  • Application and evaluation of Residential Curriculum
  • Assuming a proactive role in enhancing the student resident experience by personally resolving complex or sensitive concerns, questions, and requests, and addressing chronic resident noncompliance with community policies with appropriate university resources as applicable.


Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Personnel Services or related field OR an equivalent combination of education/job related experience.

  • 24 months residence hall supervisory experience, including education programming oversight.

  • Proven ability to lead a team, including proven success with coaching team members to improve performance, and training team members on advancing student learning.
  • Ability to resolve conflict.


Departmental Preference:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Services or related field.
  • 36 months residence hall supervisory experience, including education programming oversight.
