Residence Hall Directors are entry level Professional Staff in Residence Life and are an integral component in achieving our mission. Our Residence Hall Directors enjoy working in a collaborative yet autonomous environment. Primary responsibilities:
• Create intentional, inclusive communities that value diverse, intersecting identities
• Provide vision and leadership in a residence hall with 225-425 students
• Supervise 9-13 student staff and a Graduate Assistant Hall Director (depending on residence hall placement)
• Ensure a wide array of leadership opportunities, including advising a creative model for residence hall leadership.
• Adjudicate conduct and center student well-being
• Oversee residence hall operations and front desk services
• Address facilities needs and concerns
Beyond their residence hall, Residence Hall Directors contribute through special assignments, various committees and advising opportunities within Residence Life. In collaboration with their supervisor, Residence Hall Directors will work through a professional development plan. In addition, we support and encourage you to enhance your experience with our campus partners through involvement on university committees and other professional development opportunities at UW-La Crosse, in the La Crosse community, in the state, region, and nation.
• Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
• Prior residence life experience is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience or interest in one or more of these areas:
• Commitment to students, student voice, and student development
• Clear, active, intentional, and ongoing commitment to bridge differences with understanding and respect so all can thrive
• Student supervision or co-supervision of one or more people
• Interest in serving the UW-La Crosse community and student body
