Position Description

Olympic College is seeking a live-in Residence Hall manager for its residence hall located on the Bremerton Campus. An apartment is provided on site in the heart of Bremerton with all utilities paid.

Under the direct report of the Associate Dean of Student Services, the Resident Hall Manager will be the main point of contact for all residential hall matters. They will hold the responsibility for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating resident assistants. The position is highly visible and the incumbent will hold regular office hours and preform weekly walk through of the residence building. The incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating resident hall educational and social programs. In addition they will advise students, mediate conflicts, and make referrals to appropriate on- and off-campus agencies for specialized assistance while collaborating directly with student programs and organization. Additionally they will be responsible for following up on resident concerns and serve as the Administrative Hearing Officer for minor violations of the Student Judicial Code, assisting with other aspects of conduct administration as needed.


Job Requirements

  • Develop outreach materials (application materials, web materials, posters, and other pertinent prospective housing applicant materials) and handle marketing of residential hall and programs.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from college personnel, students, potential students and parents.
  • Oversee expenditures and manage administrative procedures for the residence hall.
  • Interpret and uphold the College's rules and regulations as set forth in the Student's Code of Conduct.
  • Crisis intervention and conflict management including mental health incidents, roommate conflicts, student conduct and staffing issues.
  • Mentor students, both individually and in groups, concerning academic, social, and personal problems.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff as resident assistants (RAs).

  • Maintain regular office hours and conduct weekly walk through of the buildings.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate resident hall educational and social programs and work directly with student programs and organizations.
  • Participate in departmental and interdepartmental committees, functions, and projects.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain residence security and safety.
  • Serve as liaison with other areas of residence operations - maintenance, facilities, campus security and counseling services.
  • Participate in professional development and growth opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of student development and student learning research, theory and practice that best serve the needs of the students.
  • Create and maintain appropriate administrative records including, but not limited to: check-in and check-outs, guest cards, programming fund records and resident rosters.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact in crisis situations involving residents. Administer appropriate follow-up.
  • Follow up  on resident concerns.
  • Serve as administrative hearing officer for minor violations of   the  Student  Judicial  code.
  • Develop and facilitate training for resident assistants.
  • Facilitate summer program housing and assist with activities for the summer programs.
  • Review all reports, respond to outstanding issues and summarize findings for the Associate Dean.
  • Coordinate regular room inspections (monthly) and complete room condition reports, including the assessment of building damages.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of room furniture and supplies.
  • Able to do light apartment maintenance (unclogging toilets, caulking, etc.).
  • Oversee student staff emergency response, as well as staff response to 24-hour lockout concerns.
  • Provide duty and phone coverage in response to emergencies surrounding resident hall safety and security.
  • Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University
  • One (1) year of previous experience as a residence life live-in staff member such as a resident assistant or a position with similar duties and responsibilities.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, student personnel, sociology or a relevant field.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in higher education.
  • Behavior management experience.
  • Experience working with academic learning communities and/or student organizations.
  • Experience working with community college and/or international students. 

Conditions of Employment:

Successful completion of a criminal history background check with no previous felony convictions.
On-site residence required (no pets allowed).
Valid unrestricted Driver's License
