Position Description

The Department of Residence Life at University of Illinois Springfield is seeking an energetic, student-centered Resident Director with excellent communication skills for full-time live-in position.  RD is responsible for providing comprehensive day-to-day Residence Life functions, administration and management, and staff supervision in residence hall or apartment area which is home to established living/learning communities.   Departmental information available at:  www.uis.edu/residencelife

Responsibilities:  Supervising 5-9 student employees; development of programs and community-building activities; intervention in crisis situations; resolution of judicial incidents; advising of individual students; liaison with university staff and departments; promoting and marketing the university.  Required to live in assigned 2 bedroom apartment as evening and weekend availability is expected; police background check if selected for hire.


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:  Bachelor degree in appropriate field; minimum one or more years previous Residential Life or other collegiate administrative experience; excellent customer service skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; working knowledge of student development principles; supervisory experience and guidance skills; leadership ability in resolving conflict.

Preferred Qualifications:  Master degree in appropriate field; experience with traditionally-aged 1st and 2nd year students in living/learning communities and/or experience with transfer, graduate, and/or international students; 2 or more years of Residence Life experience beyond undergraduate student level; demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity and inclusion.
