How You'll Contribute to the Team

The Resident Director is responsible for all operations of an assigned student housing community. Responsibilities include overseeing housing and residence life, supervising employees and monitoring facilities.  Planning, coordination and execution of a robust residence life program. Utilizing exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills, this live-in role works closely with community leadership in support of a safe, engaging and positive resident experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the university and other Corvias team members assist with marketing efforts for the promotion of on-campus housing, room selection and staff recruitment.
  • Actively promote on-campus housing to target markets and to conference clients at the appropriate times.
  • Maintain a visible presence within the university, attending functions and establishing contacts with faculty members and administrative departments.
  • Assist with the administration of the universities’ room selection process. As a part of that process coordinate room assignments (including roommate matching) for assigned building(s).
  • Ensure that student safety & security is always the main priority in community operations, which includes being fully conversant in all evacuation guidelines and emergency procedures.
  • Know and impartially enforce Community Handbook and Regulations across all staff members and students, acting as the main point of contact for all concerns.
  • Supervise the conduct of residents, monitoring and regulating behavior as needed, including providing guidance and mediation to individual students or groups of students where required.
  • Serve as a resource to students by having a comprehensive knowledge of services available to them through the University and local community, and how to access them.
  • Administration of community housing assignments - coordinating room assignments, roommate matching, managing resident roster, occupancy reporting, and coordinating opening and closing.
  • Ensure health and safety inspections are conducted as outlined by SOP.
  • Facilitate and report physical occupancy audits within 2 weeks of move-in.
  • Develop, maintain and update an active student life program that keeps students engaged and supports the social, academic, and personal development of students.
  • Support the planning and execution of summer events, including conferences, internships, and other special events.
  • Ensure community facilities are maintained to the appropriate standard by regularly monitoring facilities and following up on any issues in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of a diverse team; create accountability and ownership among team members through communication of clear expectations, supervision, and provision of timely performance feedback.
  • Ensure all community areas are appropriately staffed at all times.
  • Represent the community in a positive manner by maintaining a visible presence within the larger University, cultivating relationships and strengthening ties.
  • Respond to stakeholder, parent, and resident inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Understand all associated legal documentation for the Community, including management agreements, service work authorizations, rental agreements, etc.
  • Participate in on-call duty rotation with other professional members of the Corvias staff.
  • Select, train, supervise and complete performance reviews with paraprofessional staff using inclusive hiring, training, and supervision practices.
  • Coach, train and mentor resident assistant (RA) and graduate assistant (GA).
  • Meet regularly with supervisor, resident assistants (RA), graduate assistants (GA) and hall council leadership.
  • Coach, mentor and develop paraprofessional staff to become effective student leaders.
  • Facilitate weekly student staff meetings.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with community leaders (RAs, GAs, hall council, and other Residence Life staff).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Role Specific Requirements Include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in residence life; a Master’s degree and two to three years of experience in residence life is preferred.
  • Experience in the supervision of paraprofessionals (resident assistants, graduate assistants).
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience with emergency response and crisis management.
  • Student conduct experience.
  • Experience with living and learning communities or residential academic programs.
  • Desire to utilize, create and implement innovative practices in residence life.
  • As a live-in position, professionalism and positive role model behavior is required at all times.
