Position Description

Ohio University's Department of Housing and Residence Life is committed to helping every Bobcat discover their potential and make a meaningful impact. The department seeks candidates for the full-time Resident Director (RD) position, a twelve-month administrative contract position within the Department of Housing & Residence Life which reports directly to an Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life. Directly supervising a residential community comprised of 200-600 residents, as well as, the potential to supervise Graduate Resident Directors, the RD position is an integral part of the Housing and Residence Life team. The department is committed to the design and implementation of a residential curriculum and RDs will have the opportunity to continue developing the curriculum at OHIO in the second year of the journey. In addition to unique opportunities within various communities, RDs have the following core responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of student staff;
  • Design and implementation of an educational and community development plan for their residential community;
  • Advise hall council;
  • Facilitate a variety of business operations processes that support the residential experience;
  • Manage crisis and facilities concerns, in addition to serving in an on-call rotation;
  • Create support and challenge opportunities for students and staff in the areas of equity and social justice;  
  • Serving as a university conduct hearing officer;
  • Some RDs will supervise 1-2 graduate staff.

Successful candidates will possess skills to: 

  • Foster strong, inclusive residential communities;
  • Build relationships with residents and department colleagues;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to intentional learning and assessment; 
  • Intentionally mentor and coach staff;
  • Participate in campus and community events;
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across the institution.

Requirements for Position:

  • Master’s degree required, preferred Higher Education or related field
  • Experience in Housing and Residence Life preferred

  • Experience with LLCs (ex: ROTC, Greek Housing, Single Gender Housing, International Student Housing, Social Justice Communities, Student Athletes, etc.)
  • Dynamic interactions with students (ex. Spring Break Advisor, Course Instructor, Club Advisor, Hall Council Advisor, etc.)
