Position Description

Current vacant position opening is for a Residential Community Director for Second Year, anticipated vacant position is for a Residential College Director for First Year.

The RCD [Residential College Director for First Year, Residential Community Director for Second Year, or Residential Community Director for Upperclass] creates and facilitates an integrated residential learning environment that moves their students toward achieving the goals of the undergraduate experience, working through the mission and goals of both the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs. The RCD for First Year also supports the mission and goals of the Office of Undergraduate Studies.  This embedded position provides comprehensive leadership and support for a community of 230-1350 students. Immersed in the student community, the RCD actively manages the learning experience at both the community and individual level, monitoring and supporting students’ holistic academic, social, and personal development throughout their experience, to successful retention to the next year, and through graduation.

Other responsibilities include academic support, community development, selection and training of staff, crisis management and response, on-call rotation participation, student conduct, administering expenditures and budgets, and committee leadership and/or participation at the department, division, and university levels.

All RCDs report to an Assistant Director of Residence Life as a primary supervisor.

Job Requirements

2 years experience required. Experience may include full-time equivalent graduate and significant undergraduate leadership experience in Residence Life, Academic Advising, or related fields.  Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline completed by date of hire.

Ability to apply independent judgment and decision-making skills within university policies and procedures.  Demonstrated awareness and experience addressing developmental needs and concerns of students. Ability to maintain a work environment that is marked by inclusiveness and respect for others. Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
