Position Description

University Housing is a part of the Division of Student Affairs.  In addition to housing, other departments and units in the division include: Academic Partnerships and Initiatives; Center for Leadership and Service, Disability Resource Center, Greek Life Office, International Student Life, LGBT Resource Center, Multicultural Services and Programs, Office of Student Conduct, Recreational Sports, Student Affairs Assessment and Staff Development; Student Affairs Communications and Marketing Initiatives, Student Affairs Development, Student Affairs for Extended Campuses, Student Support Services, Student Veterans Resource Center, Tate Business Services, Tate Student Center, University Health Center and University Testing Services.  This dynamic division’s mission is to enhance the learning environment for students at the University of Georgia.

University Housing’s mission is to provide comfortable, affordable and secure on campus housing options in residential communities where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported. Housing offers a variety of living environments, including 580 apartments for families and graduate students.   More than seven thousand single students are housed in 22 residence halls.  The single students’ halls are administratively grouped into eight communities.  The majority of these communities houses approximately 1,000 residents each.  Housing is developing and strengthening collaborative efforts with academic colleagues to enrich the living-learning environment.

POSITION SUMMARY:  The residential leadership coordinator’s primary responsibility is to provide oversight for the creation and implementation of University Housing’s student leadership initiatives including the Residence Hall Association and the National Residence Hall Honorary. This position is full-time, live on and classified as non-exempt.  While work hours will fall primarily between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday there are significant evening and weekend commitments over the course of the year.


Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus two years of full time work experience
  • Experience in advising student organizations
  • Experience in supervision, training and evaluation of student staff (desk or office assistants, resident assistants)
  • Experience in developing, implementing and assessing strategic goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Experience providing budgetary oversight

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Collaborative individual working with faculty and staff from a variety of university departments.
  • Ability to multitask and find creative solutions in a supervisory and autonomous environment
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard
  • Strong oral and written communication skills need to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Administration, student personnel or related area
  • Experience working groups that operate within state, regional or national organizations
  • ART (Advisor Resource Training) Certification
