Position Description

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center is designed to create an inclusive, sustainable space of self-discovery for the LGBT community within the University of Georgia.  We support and affirm every student inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression.  The LGBT Resource Center serves as a space by which all faculty, staff, and students can engage and explore the issues associated with sexual and gender identities and a place where students can feel, express, and be their true, authentic self.

The LGBT Resource Center provides a variety of programs and services to increase awareness and foster understanding of issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. With two full-time staff members, one part-time administrative assistant, one graduate assistant, along with student employees, the LGBT Resource Center plays a critical role in student support and advisement, campus educational efforts, community building, fostering dialogue, and ongoing initiatives to ensure that all students have the fullest opportunity to flourish and succeed. The Senior Coordinator of the LGBT Resource Center reports to the Director of the LGBT Resource Center.  The senior coordinator facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of educational, social, support and resource programs for students inclusive of those pertaining to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.  The senior coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the Center including the coordination, development, and implementation of a variety of programs and services that promote intercultural understanding through the lens of sexual orientation and gender identity.  The senior coordinator will work advise student organizations within the Center to ensure proper leadership training and development.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary advisor for Lambda Alliance, the campus-wide LGBTQ student group.  Provide advice in matters involving program development, marketing, and budgeting to ensure all students are following university policies regarding expenditures, marketing and assessment.  Conduct leadership training programs as needed with Lambda Alliance executive board members.
  • Recruit, select, train and schedule the LGBT Resource Center Ambassadors and  provide leadership, supervision, and training for these student representatives of the Center.
  • Supervise one graduate assistant, student graphic designer, volunteers and graduate practicum students/interns in their day-to-day duties and responsibilities.
  • Provide administrative support and leadership for campus-wide educational initiatives including, but not limited to, Safe Space programming, LGBT 101, classroom inclusivity trainings, and student organization leadership trainings.
  • Oversee, support, and assist with planning and implementation of departmental educational awareness and learning programs including, but not limited to, LGBT History Month, National Coming Out Day, DAWGS Making It Better, Ally Visibility Day, Lunch with Leaders, Trans Awareness Week and Lavender Graduation.
  • Advise individual students as it relates to adjustment to UGA, navigating campus resources and services, and social involvement opportunities.
  • Identify and encourage collaborative programming opportunities among student organizations and other units on campus and within the community.
  • Represent the Center and the Division of Student Affairs at various events geared towards the recruitment of underrepresented students (high school visitations, presentations to prospective students and parents, etc.). 
  • Serve in the capacity of the Director in their absence as needed.
  • Provide overall management and coordination for the website, listserv and social media accounts, inclusive of marketing for programs and services offered through the LGBT Resource Center.  Ensure that appropriate media outlets are utilized to reach intended audiences.
  • Assist with development and fundraising initiatives including, but not limited to, annual fund campaign implementation and maintenance, alumni engagement initiatives, and donor solicitations and stewardship.
  • Engage in service to the university community through participation in various committees, and developing and maintaining strong collaborative working relationships with institutional and community colleagues.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field AND one (1) year of relevant experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field AND three (3) years of relevant experience


  • Seven (7) years of experience in a relevant field
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Master’s degree in higher education, college student affairs administration, gender and sexuality studies, counseling, adult education, or related field of study. 
  • Minimum of one to three years working with LGBTQ-identified individuals.
  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the concerns and issues facing the LGBT community and the intersection of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • General background in social justice education, multiculturalism, ally development, and inclusive excellence.
  • Experience in advising students and student organizations.
  • Strong organizational, budget-management, and program planning skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and with individuals and groups who hold a variety of identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Understanding and engagement with issues that affect underrepresented student populations and their academic and personal success.
  • Strong interpersonal, management, and innovative problem-solvoing skills.
  • Positive, collaborative approach to working with diverse students and colleagues.
