This is a full-time, twelve-month management position with full benefits.
Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President for Identity, Health and Wellness, the Senior Director of Campus Recreation provides professional leadership, oversight and management for industry-standard, outcomes-based, vibrant recreation programs through effective management of resources, fiscal processes, daily operations, functional area leadership, and management of affiliated risk. The successful candidate will develop and monitor the recreation needs of the university community through a comprehensive campus recreation program.
The Senior Director will provide leadership that shapes future directions and new initiatives for the Department based on expressed students' recreation and leisure needs by conducting on-going assessments. This individual will be an innovative leader who excels at uniting recreational initiatives in delivering exceptional recreation experiences. The Senior Director will have core competencies in facilities, budget management, organizational development, risk management, and a thorough knowledge of best practices for engaging students in Campus Recreation environments.
The Senior Director of Campus Recreation proactively develops strong partnerships and collaborations with integral Student Affairs departments and academic departments to create excellent programs and participant outcomes. This individual will serve a primary role as the professional face of various campus recreation and special event programs for the university community. These components include group fitness, intramural sports, club sports, outdoor recreation (including a climbing wall), open recreation, and special events.
Direct program leadership and management may include a variety of student and community-wide programs, as well as supervision and support of various program components in Campus Recreation and corresponding full-time staff. This individual will provide administrative leadership and management support across program areas as well as assistance and hands-on engagement, including back-up support.
Due to the nature of facility operations and recreational programming, the Senior Director of Campus Recreation will work and plan a varied annual work schedule to observe and/or supervise programs including early morning, evening and weekend hours. The typical work schedule is 8:00 am - 4:30 pm M-F; however, as needs arise, evenings and weekend will be required based on specific programming and staffing.
Master's degree in Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Sports Management, Athletic or Public Administration, Higher Education/Students Affairs, or related field required. Doctoral degree is preferred.Experience Requirements: 3-5 years managing a university campus recreation program or student recreation facility and 3-5 years supervising full-time professional campus recreation staff. Certification Requirements: CPR/AED and First Aid
