Position Description

Student Conduct Advisor

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking a professional staff member to administer the student conduct process in a manner that ensures student development, consistent and fair application of University policy, and respectful treatment of all participants. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Student Conduct, the Student Conduct Advisor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the student conduct process as well as provide outreach and education to the campus community. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting University-wide conduct system and due process to ensure investigation and resolution are consistent with University policy.
  • Oversee and manage response to student issues and concerns, students accused of conduct violations, and referrals from University Housing and University Police.
  • Oversee day-to-day conduct process including holding administrative review hearings and hearing panels.
  • Develop and implement selection process and training for student conduct hearing panels.
  • Develop student learning outcomes and measure success of student conduct processes.
  • Provide input into policy and procedure development and compliance.
  • Counsel and ensure students understand the conduct process; issue and receive formal communication to and from students and other stakeholders; outline expectations; refer students to campus partner offices; and assist students with the completion of any intervention plan.
  • Determine appropriate response to emerging incidents.
  • Serve on various committees including Persons of Concern, conduct team (University Police, University Housing, Counseling Services, and Title IX), alcohol and other drugs, mental health hospitalizations and suicide prevention, and others.
  • Maintain case notes and student files related to student conduct.
  • Develop content for publications, presentations, marketing materials, and website for student conduct.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in student conduct administration, including student conduct code development and administration.
  • Serve as an investigator for Title IX cases as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, college student personnel or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience as a graduate assistant or in a professional staff position related directly to student conduct administration.
  • Knowledge of effective case management techniques including use of campus conduct software programs such as Maxient or similar software.
  • Ability to research information to solve problems and the ability to work with diverse populations and varying educational levels.
  • Detail oriented; excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, investigation skills, time management skills, conflict resolution skills, and multitasking capabilities are all required.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and web content management software preferred.
  • Association of Student Conduct membership preferred.
