Position Description

The Student Success Advisor will have an exciting opportunity to expand and develop an emerging Student Success department for our ever-growing Graduate Student population. They will assist students, on-site but primarily online, in the development and ongoing achievement of their educational goals and offers a particular emphasis on student engagement, facilitating access to and use of student services, and academic support systems. The Student Success Advisor also collaborates with academic programs on the student’s academic progress, including planning based on a comprehensive knowledge of the university’s academic programs, requirements and support services. They provide students with excellent student service with an overall interest toward the promotion of student success, wellness, and retention based on performance metrics and in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the university.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Advises students and coordinates academic student support across University offices, to connect students individually with services for promoting academic persistence, progression, and success
Provides guidance to at-risk students to devise and implement a plan for student success and maintain regular follow up.
Refers students to tutor services when needed and assists students with questions related to support services and work with the program coordinator.
Conducts or participates in student withdrawal procedures, attendance counseling, grievance committee, and generalized problem-solving with individual students.
Advises students about University policies and procedures
Provides guidance to at-risk students to devise and implement a plan for student success and maintain regular follow up
Refers students to tutor services when needed and assists students with questions related to support services and work with program coordinator
Assist in facilitating the University onsite and online Writing Resources Services
Assist in facilitating student requests for Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations
Facilitate new and continuing students as necessary
Conducts or participates in student withdrawal procedures, attendance counseling, grievance committee, and generalized problem-solving with individual students
Assists students with student grievances process
Facilitates communications with students by using email, handbooks, orientation, and other official University approved resource
Assists students and graduates with career development/placement in conjunction with Career Services personnel
Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
Two years work experience assisting graduate students (both online and onsite)
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Passion for working with and serving others
Appreciation and passion for DMU’s unique mission and its program offerings
Comfortable and skilled in professional phone and email communications
Command of email protocols and general professional communication ethics
Familiarity with online student populations a plus
Ability to adjust to a growing and changing work environment
Eagerness to participate in multiple areas of the University through this position

Documented experience:
Excellent organizational and computer skills
Self-motivated and goal oriented
Ability to facilitate team effort as well as ability to work independently
Excellent written/oral and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work quickly to meet deadlines
Strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and improve in all aspects of the position
Customer-oriented attitude.

Preferred:
Customer service experience
Masters' Degree from an accredited college or university 
Ability to adjust to a growing and changing work environment
Eagerness to participate in multiple areas of the University through this position

OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

Strong technology and computer knowledge inclusive of experience in triage and problem solving.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, GradPro, Canvas, Tk20, Zoom, and other University systems and applications
Ability to communicate effectively and assist students with computer usage, computer program usage, connecting to internet applications and similar computer-related tasks and situations which would be frequently encountered by an online student.
Advanced familiarity with computer networking and program knowledge,
Familiarity with online CRM and CSRM learning platforms is a plus,
Must be comfortable working in a largely computer-based environment, interacting with students using technology (e.g., phone, email, Zoom.)
