Position Description

The University of Maine System is seeking applications for the position of UMS Coordinator of Title IX Services.

Provides consultation and support to the UMS and its campuses in order to ensure compliance around gender-based discrimination or harassment protected under federal and state laws, regulations, guidelines and University policies regarding Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.  Oversees all Title IX-related resources, training, education and compliance-associated functions System-wide, in coordination with campus-based Deputy Title IX Coordinators and other leadership as appropriate.

Essential Duties 

  • Serves as the University of Maine System-wide Title IX Coordinator.
  • Responds to requests from campuses for consultation and assistance regarding Title IX as well as developing a strategic plan and/or policies to address gender-based discrimination and harassment issues
  • Assists Deputy Title IX Coordinators, Athletics, Vice Presidents, Deans, Department Chairs, and Managers in identifying, resolving and preventing gender-based discrimination and harassment.
  • Fosters and enhances collaboration between and among the Title IX UMS and Campus-based team in order to share best practice, develop shared educational and training programs, etc.
  • Participate in and plan, in coordination with the Deputy Title IX Coordinators, annual training.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned.

Dotted line oversight of Title IX Deputy Coordinators and Staff Associate for Title IX Services.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

Required: 

  • A Master’s or JD degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of four years related experience, with duties and responsibilities related to compliance, investigations, programming, diversity, employment and student practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of gender-based discrimination and harassment policies, laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse population
  • Ability to set strategic direction and design and implement effective policies and programs. Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Able to professionally and ethically handle highly sensitive and confidential matters
  • Experience developing and delivering training for a variety of constituents
  • Computer proficiency including MS Office, online training platforms

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a collaborative Title IX team
  • Related experience in a public institution or higher education environment working with faculty, staff or students
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
  • Experience with Maxient
