Position Description

Job Description: 

The Undergraduate Program Manager will support the academic progression of Mines students in Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Computer Science (CS). In addition to academic advising, the Program Manager will administer various academic support services, retention efforts, and supplemental instruction offerings in collaboration with academic faculty and administration. Broadly, the Undergraduate Program Manager will uphold established national standards for academic advising and academic support whilst upholding the mission of Colorado School of Mines.

Responsibilities: 

The Undergraduate Program Manager will provide comprehensive academic advising support services to undergraduate students whom are transitioning from CASA (general advising for new incoming students until around their 2ndsemester sophomore year) until their graduation. Additionally, the Undergraduate Program Manager will work collaboratively with EE, ME, and CS Departments to support all undergraduate students within those departments. Academic advising will encapsulate approximately 70% of the annual workload.

The position will manage, plan, and support ME, CS, and EE undergraduate programming initiatives such as  department recruitment events, newly declared major information sessions, group advising session, student advisory committee meetings, company recruitment events, recognition events, and Preview and Discover Mines. Serves as the main point of contact for prospective student/family inquiries and visits. This includes the development and maintenance of marketing materials, inquiry tracking system, and communication plans. This function encapsulates approximately 30% of the annual workload.


Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors’ degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a relevant field such as higher education administration, education leadership, curriculum and development, psychology, technology, etc. 
  • Moderate amount of professional experience with college students in an advising, mentoring, or leadership role. 
  • Professional oral and writing communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • High level of proficiency with computer software and technology

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters’ degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a relevant field such as higher education administration, education leadership, curriculum and development, counseling, psychology, technology, etc.
  • Prior employment as a full-time academic advisor and/or academic support or student support specialist in a college or university setting
  • Significant event/programming planning skills and experience
  • Advising or teaching experience with an engineering/applied science setting
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity of perspective
  • Experience supervising employed (defined as paid) student
