Position Description

St. Catherine University (St. Kate’s) invites applications for its Vice President of Career and Professional Development. The Vice President provides oversight to the Career Development Center and the Center for Community Work and Learning. This position resides in the division of Student Affairs, with a focus on the overall student experience — ensuring that all programs consider the holistic development and academic success of students across all degree levels. St. Kate’s seeks a dynamic and committed leader to serve as the Vice President of Career and Professional Development for a changing student population with complex support needs.

Based in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, St. Kate’s is home to a diverse group of nearly 5,000 students in a wide array of disciplines and degree levels. At its heart, the legacy of its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (CSJs), informs every facet of this private Catholic university. The Vice President will lead based on values inspired by the Sisters, including those of community, spirituality, and social justice.

The Vice President of Career and Professional Development (CPD) will serve as the University’s leader in designing and implementing a vision to integrate career and professional development and community engagement more fully into the student experience. The Vice President of CPD provides oversight to both the Career Development Center and Center for Community Work and Learning (CWL). This person also will partner with Institutional Advancement as the external representative for career and professional development, and support building strategic partnerships that advance the strategic plan for the University as well as the missions of these centers.

This role is responsible for the overall direction and oversight of all career and professional development efforts for all prospective students, current students, and alumni of the University. This position exists with the goal of providing programs and services that support the holistic development, academic, civic, and career success of students across all degree levels, and in fulfillment of the University’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.


Job Requirements

Among the qualifications sought in candidates are:
• A master’s degree in higher education leadership/administration, student development, student personnel, or related field, plus seven years of progressive experience in career-related and/or student engagement fields, both within and outside the academic realm; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Evidence of exceptional ability to lead and manage diverse teams, especially in terms of establishing and implementing a shared, innovative vision and strategies for achievement.
• Proven leadership success within the fields of Career Development and Community and Civic Engagement.
• Established relationships with employers locally and nationwide.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to establish and nurture relationships with external and internal constituents at the most senior level.
• Proven project management and change management skills with record of achieving results across a broad portfolio.
• A consummate collaborator, with a results orientation.
• Strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills, with experience in using analysis to develop strategies and drive change within an organization.
• Experience in hiring staff and creating effective teams.
• Well-developed fiscal and budget management skills.
• Demonstrated skills in program assessment and evaluation.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive climate for students, faculty, and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to raise funds and work with donors.
