About North Shore Community College:

THE COLLEGE

North Shore Community College (NSCC) is an award-winning, strategic, leading-edge institution of higher education. The medium-sized Massachusetts college serves 26 cities and towns along the coastal region from north metropolitan Boston to Cape Ann.

Since its founding in 1965, NSCC has grown from a single building to three campuses, and from five to over 80 credit and professional noncredit workforce development programs of study. The college has an urban campus in downtown Lynn, a suburban campus in Danvers, and a career technical credit center in Middleton. 

The college is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and is in the process of a ten-year re-accreditation. The college is guided by a Massachusetts Board of Higher Education approved 2017-2021 strategic plan, as well as the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education's equity goals.

NSCC STUDENTS

NSCC meets students where they are and helps them to get to where they want to go. The student population features traditional-aged students, career changers, first generation college students and those seeking workforce training. NSCC educates about 8,500 credit and 3,000 noncredit/workforce development students annually. The college's supportive environment offers a broad mix of pre-college and transitional programs, special support services for students with disabilities, veterans, and women returning to school. NSCC is a designated Bronze Level Military Friendly School where approximately 350 veterans are enrolled and receive assistance applying for Post-9/11 GI benefits and other services.

NSCC is committed to developing and maintaining an inclusive, proactive, and empowered culture where diversity is a guiding value. Forty-two percent of the college's student population is minority, with Hispanic/Latino accounting for 25% of this number. Nearly 11% of the student population is black/African American.


Job Description:

The Vice President for Student Affairs (VP SA) serves as the chief student administrative officer reporting directly to the President and a member of the Executive Team with three other Vice Presidents. The VP SA provides leadership and management to a component that oversees Recruitment, Enrollment Services, Professional Advising, Career Services, Accessibility and Wellness Services, Veteran Services, Student Engagement, judicial proceedings and Student Code of Conduct, as well as various achievement/retention initiatives and collaborations.

The VP, in concert with the executive team, develops short and long term activities and programs to uphold the College's mission and strategic plan.

Placing student success at the center of all strategies, this leader creates an environment that values diversity, promotes trust and respect for all and enhances co-curricular engagement activities to develop student leaders prepared for successful transfer to a four-year academic experience or for successful entry into the workforce.

GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS

As a member of the President's Senior Staff and executive leader of the college, works collaboratively across the college to support student success and oversees the establishment of a college-wide comprehensive strategic enrollment plan that maximizes current and future enrollment health.
Provides leadership and vision in all areas of student affairs including but not limited to admissions, enrollment management,  orientation, student engagement and leadership development, academic, transfer and career advising, student success programs, wellness, accessibility services, judicial affairs, and graduation.
Works collaboratively with academic affairs leaders to promote enrollment management as a comprehensive and integrated approach toward enhancing and improving retention, transfer and completion rates of NSCC students.
Advocates for strong student support services
Maintains and strengthens relationships with four year colleges and universities and local K - 12 systems, community partners and employers to improve student success.
Promotes and expands a student-centered environment responsive to the needs and interests of all students grounded in the teaching and learning process.
Responsible for overseeing the program review of student services for continuous improvement in collaboration with the Planning, Research and Assessment team as well as other appropriate cross-college stakeholders and advancing college policies that are reviewed through an enrollment management lens.
Promotes academic success by improving access, transition, persistence, retention and graduation in keeping with the goals of the NSCC 5-year Strategic Plan and the MA Department of Higher Education's Equity Initiative.
Leads all aspects of the Student Affairs division ensuring an efficient, effective customer service friendly organization characterized by an appreciation of diversity and team spirit.
Supports a co-curriculum that engages students and develops future leaders and that enhances civic learning, providing an avenue for participation in college and community life.
Chairs the Enrollment Management Team and serves on committees and performs other duties assigned by the President.

Job Requirements

Doctorate preferred, master's degree in relevant discipline required.
At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience and success in higher education student affairs  and enrollment services, at least 3 of which must be at a management level. (community college experience preferred)
Demonstrated familiarity with functional areas reporting to the VP.
Demonstrated effective leadership and vision in planning, implementing, evaluating and advocating for a wide range of student oriented programs with a student centered approach.
Is a proactive, creative strategic thinker with a strong customer service orientation.
Familiarity with and an appreciation for the mission of a community college.
Demonstrated knowledge of and fluency in an integrated database system. (Preference for experience with Ellucian Banner and a CRM software).
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to inspire others to accomplish their best.
Knowledge of current national best practices and trends in recruitment, enrollment, retention and student success.
Demonstrated experience utilizing data in decision making and goal setting.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to change.
A leader who genuinely values cultural, racial and economic differences
Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
