Florida Atlantic University (FAU) – a dynamic, multicultural public research university with six campuses and sites that span more than 100 miles of coastline – welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA).
Reporting directly to President John Kelly, the Vice President of Student Affairs provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the Division of Student Affairs which includes the following functional areas: Associate Vice President & Dean of Students, Associate Vice President for Student Outreach & Diversity, Health & Wellness, and Career Services in addition to the Student Union, the New Student Transitions & Family Engagement, Housing & Residential Education, and Assessment & Research. FAU is currently undergoing aggressive growth in expanding their student housing - specifically, developing two new residential halls as a part of a multi-million dollar project to increase housing access for both current and future student populations at the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses. The division is also engaged in the renovation and construction of the Student Union. The next Vice President will have the unique opportunity of establishing new traditions to increase student engagement and foster an even stronger sense of affinity and pride to the institution.
The successful candidate will be a visionary collaborator and innovative leader. Among their rich and versatile skillset, they will possess exceptional administrative, financial, and managerial skills, coupled with proven experience in a dynamic and complex professional environment. This vice president will partner with the Division of Enrollment Management in a joint effort to increase university-wide enrollment; they will also help to drive academic success initiatives in conjunction with the Office of the Provost. The VPSA will be familiar with effective evidence-based programming to promote student mental health and wellness. The VPSA will have a broad knowledge of issues currently facing student affairs, and exhibit an enthusiasm to partner with all university constituencies including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and trustees. As the institution prepares for the launch of a comprehensive capital campaign, the vice president will be expected to partner closely with the office of advancement in helping to raise funds for the division of student affairs and the campus community. The VPSA will be expected to partner successfully with internal and external constituencies; they will represent the division and the university to the media, the public, and local and state government agencies. The VPSA will display integrity in behavior while making decisions, and demonstrate a commitment to advancing cultural diversity as a strategic priority. A master's degree and ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience is required; a Ph.D. or Ed.D. is strongly preferred.
